The CBE community is fortunate to have such a vibrant membership where volunteerism serves as the backbone for so many of our wonderful programs.
In that vein, Shabbat services, the focal point of the Jewish week, need the same level of support as so many of our other events at the synagogue.
Oneg means “delight”. Certainly, the Oneg Shabbat and Holiday Kiddushes are sources of delight to our community, helping all of us welcome the Shabbat with our friends over light refreshments.
What's involved (in a nutshell):
For a typical Shabbat Service, two families will share the oneg duties. For times of light attendance (summer, for example), one family per oneg is quite sufficient. Sponsors need not worry about providing challah, wine or coffee as they will be in the kitchen when you arrive. Sponsors do provide baked goods, fruit, milk for coffee, juices or seltzer. Sponsors set up the food and beverage tables prior to or during the service, and serve cups of wine and juice at the door of the social hall at the conclusion of the service. See instructions below for more detail.

If you don't have time to shop or prepare:
For members of our congregation who don’t feel they have the time prepare or shop, you can call Roche Bros Catering, 978-263-8700 and state that you want to place an order for CBE. You can also order half and half, juice and seltzer. Payment can be made in person, by credit card, over the phone, or online. If some families want to add that personal touch and supply home baked goods, they can work it out with their co-host family. Roche Bros. also offers delivery of the platters for an additional charge. When ordering, please inform them if you are opting for delivery, as you will be billed for this as well.
Occasions you might want to celebrate with an Oneg:
In honor of a Bar or Bat Mitzvah
To honor the memory of a loved one on the occasion of his/her yahrzeit
Upcoming nuptials or an Aufruf (pre-wedding ceremony)
Birthday or Anniversary
What a nice way to honor those individuals who are important in your life!
