Our educational program is committed not only to an excellent religious school for our children, but to providing quality educational opportunities for parents and children to grow together in their Jewish experience. Thus, our Family Education program continues to grow in its scope and its impact.
In addition to grade-based programs, Family Education sponsors several community-wide events. Notable among these is Am Hasefer, a festival of Jewish culture and literature. The Family Education program supports our class Shabbat services, and sponsors outreach to our college students as well.
Class Shabbat Services
Classes lead a Shabbat service during the year, accompanied by a Friday night family dinner. Older students conduct parts of the service by sharing their knowledge of prayers and melodies as well as their creative interpretations of prayers, Torah portions, or special themes. Students often present foods or ceremonial objects to include in their family Shabbat experience. Parents are urged to participate as well. Sometimes by sharing special readings or by leading blessings at our dinner. The class Shabbat provides an opportunity to bring all the families of the class together as a community in the relaxing and enjoyable spirit of Shabbat. These class Shabbatot are supported by our Family Education program.
