Family Education Presents A Monthly Series of Topics of Interest
We all know, perhaps with more or less detail,
the traditional Purim story. This would be a great opportunity, with your
family, to read our newest Family Ed
Presents posting on "Purim". In addition to the traditional
story of Haman, Esther and the Jewish people, you can read why Purim & the
month of Adar are considered to be such happy & times in our calendar. On
Saturday night, February 27th, please come with your family to our congregation
Purim Service at 7:30PM.
To borrow a quote from this month's Family
Ed Presents posting: "The
festival of Purim, the most joyous of Jewish holidays, is a good opportunity to
affirm the uniqueness of being Jewish, the values that we cherish, and the
values that set us apart. Even in the midst of raucous good cheer, we remember
our obligations to do good deeds and to stand up to tyranny."
Although not necessarily timed to coincide with the upcoming Purim holiday
which tells the ancient story of the struggle of the Jews to overcome hatred
& prejudice, our Midrasha students and families recently participated in a
wonderful presentation by the Anti-Defamation League, arranged by Leann.
It was a great opportunity for our older students & families to think and
talk about how to deal with similar struggles that we may encounter in our
lives; to empower us to be able to respond in such situations and to educate
others at the same time.
We are fortunate at CBE to have so many wonderful options to enhance our
knowledge and to celebrate our history and traditions. I encourage you to
keep your eyes and ears open for such opportunities. The STAR, STAR Lite and
our CBE website are great venues for doing so, as are the many fliers and
announcements that you can see and hear at the synagogue.
SAVE THE DATE: Sunday, May 2nd will be our 2nd CBE Mitzvah Day, with
Family Ed, Social Action and our religious school collaborating to plan for
this event. Please let me know if you are interested in joining the Family
Education Committee; the more of us there are, the better!
Enrollment is now open for Holidays Together, a series of sessions for parents and children who will enter Kindergarten in 2009 and 2010 that explores the wonder of the Jewish holidays throughout the year.
